My Best Friend's Closet: April 2015

It's always fun to update your wardrobe as a new season approaches. Our Spring has sprung late so I'm just now getting excited to pick out some new must haves. I asked Carrie to give me some ideas on what to look for. I have been seeing a ton of palm print shorts and tops. This is definitely a trend that I'm loving! If you are looking for a great nude lipstick-NARS Cruising is a wonderful shade. I honestly think it will look good on almost every skin tone. I love Banana Republic's latest accessories and these spike earrings and knotted leather belt are two small details that can carry you through the season. I may have ordered the belt today...A denim jacket is so timeless but it's all in the wash. This one from J.Crew has the perfect amount of fade. Are you searching for something particular this Spring?! I would love to hear what you are on the hunt for!

"Put Together" with a Basic Fashion Formula

NECKLACES: House of Harlow 1960 (long), Cristina V.(short)

The last time I wore this blazer in a post was almost 2 years ago-take a look HERE! I'm working with a wonderful woman on changing over her Spring/Summer wardrobe. When we first met, she said she loves the lady that "always looks put together". I love that lady too! I strive to be her, but running around with kids and all their activities, it just doesn't always happen. (i.e. saturday am baseball pics sans makeup) I did brainstorm on what I thought a good "go to" outfit would be and with some inspiration from the boys, came up with a classic blazer, boyfriend jeans and loafers. A structured bag adds a slightly more polished look and a white tee is simply classic. People will think you pondered this ensemble for days but it's a very simple combo! Take a look below for some other suggestions.

Mint, White & Navy with StitchFix

I don't know anyone who doesn't like getting surprise packages in the mail. I was excited to try StitchFix this month and opened up my mailbox to a nice big package with 5 different pieces of clothing curated for me. StitchFix is a subscription service that for $20 each "fix", will send you 5 wardrobe pieces for you to try. Keep what you want and the $20 will go towards the items. Return everything and you are out the money. BUY everything and get 25% off everything! You can renew the service automatically or whenever you feel like you need a little pick me up package. In my first box, I received a coral tank, coral dress, blue peasant blouse, olive ankle twill pants and the lace top I'm wearing above. I fell in love with this top! It fits like a tee, rather than a dressy blouse and is so feminine. That was all I decided to keep and the total price for the shirt was $54. When I looked it up online-the real cost is $41. So there is definitely an added cost but it's realistic considering the service and convenience you are getting. I think it's great to try if you dislike shopping or don't have the time. I, however, love shopping and make time so I don't know how often I'll use StitchFix. If you want to try it out, head over to the website HERE

I have a thing for aviators so when I spotted these lilac mirrored sunnies-I had to have them! Occupational hazard, I guess. I'll be on the local news in a couple of weeks discussing what to look for when trying to find the perfect pair of sunglasses so stay tuned for that!

Hope everyone has a great week!!

button down: Banana Republic
sweater: Banana Republic
pants: Gap Factory
wedges: old, similar
bracelet: Stella & Dot

I am one of those people that enters contests. On IG, other blogs, websites, you name it and I've entered it. It's had some big payoffs. I've won a designer bag, a stroller, a NARS makeup collection, a 2015 planner, coconut oil beauty package and $500 to Banana Republic. Yep-ya read that last one right! Most recently I entered a contest on Twitter and won 5 $100 gift cards to BR. Recently, BR got a makeover when designer Marissa Webb took the reigns and designed her first collection for the brand. What was once ho hum workwear is now so cool-I don't even know how else to describe it. I loved this Ikat print button down and couldn't resist the mint sweater with the cross over detail in the back. I'm amazed that I haven't spent it all yet, but I'm patiently waiting to see what else I can discover as more pieces to the collection is made available. I'll be sure to keep you posted!

And next time you see a contest, go ahead and enter it. As my Mother in Law says-"You can't win if you don't enter!"

April Beauty Must Haves!

I've been searching for a good facial wipe cleanser that is UNSCENTED. I've tried many brands that are natural and devoid of harsh chemicals. The others have worked well but I can't get over the smell. These Acure Unscented Argon Oil Cleansing Towelettes are perfect. They get the job done without the scent. I find them to be thinner than other brands, but it was a fine compromise for what I was looking for. And the price was right on target at target-$6!

I snagged the Tarte Cosmetics Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara when Ulta was having their 21 days of deals. It was $10! I love how it elongates my lashes without clumping. I have a hard time using different mascaras due to allergy, but I had zero itching with this.

I was the lucky winner of a coconut combo of goodness through an instagram contest. If you love products with literally 5 ingredients or less-you MUST check out SW Basics of Brooklyn. They make their products in small batches. I am obsessed with this exfoliator. It has 3 ingredients and they are all organic. It's a drier scrub than most but if you keep it in the shower, it'll work absolutely fine. Cocovit coconut oil is harvested from fresh coconuts from South India. Coconut oil is great for hydrating skin. I again, leave it in the shower and let the warm water heat it up to liquid form then use the liquid as a body oil.

B & W: Local J.Crew Factory Opening Today!

top: J.Crew Factory (sold out online), similar
blazer: Forever 21
pouch: Leah Lerner
jeans: Old Navy
sunnies: Maui Jim
bracelets: Emerson & Oliver
earrings: J. Crew Factory

Happy April Fools Day! I haven't had a chance to think of any epic pranks to play on those close to me. I've been busy welcoming my new nephew, Brayden John to the world! Weighing in at 8 lbs. 8 ounces, he is a pretty big boy and just perfect! I've had such baby fever lately! I always pictured myself with three kids but having the boys so close together (they are 18 months apart) and balancing work-it made for some pretty tough days when they were small. The boys were so adorable meeting their cousin though. I know they'd do great with a new baby and actually they ask for one daily. As if I could just pop one out. Wouldn't that be great if it was that easy!

Another celebration is the opening of our local J.Crew Factory store in Pittsford Plaza. I am super excited to have this amazing store so close to home. I'm also a little worried for my bank account, but have been practicing a lot of self control lately as I've made a goal to find more pieces I can mix at work and for the weekend. This top from J.Crew Factory is a perfect example of that! It looks classy at work paired with black dress pants but also fun when paired with ripped black denim and heels. The store opens at 10 am and there will be a grand opening party from 5-8 pm with treats from Village Bakery and wine from Casa Larga. 10% of sales will be donated to Pluta Cancer Center! My heart is happy with all the local love! Join me tomorrow!!
