Two Thousand 12

2012 has been such an amazing year. I created my blog in July and the response I've gotten has been overwhelming! From being named Lauren Conrad's "Chic of the Week" to the everyday compliments on how much people enjoy the blog, I really am thankful. I've loved bringing beauty and fashion ideas to the everyday lady and I hope 2013 will be bigger and better. Have a safe and happy New Year!

Holiday Gift Guide: The Vintage Cook

I love how Anthropologie gives off that vintage feel with their kitchen accessories. It makes me want to bake in the kitchen all day long. The initial mugs are only $5.00 for today only!! They make such a cute, personal gift. My boys got me one for Christmas last year. It was one of my very favorite gifts. The malls are open late tonight so run out and get that baker, hostess, coffee lover something special from Anthropologie!

Holiday Gift Guide: The Athlete

Only a week left until Christmas. If you're like most people I know, you still have a lot of shopping left.  I loved putting together different gift guides for those last minute shoppers. Check back each day for a different theme. Enjoy your week!

Hi Everyone! I'm so excited to tell you about my collaboration with Cornell's Jewelers and Styles with Shannon. If you're local, you may know Cornell's as a jewelery store with a well know reputation for carrying gorgeous, expensive fine jewelry. If you're not local, you may recognize the name from seeing their ads in major fashion magazines. Most people see the tall, grand brick building and immediately are intimidated. I'll admit it, I was one of them. Then I finally mustered the nerve to go inside and one of the first things I noticed was a children's lounge with a fully stocked candy bar. If a jewelry store is freely giving children the freedom to eat tons of candy, then they must be relaxed. All I could think of was Jack or Trevor hyped up on sugar and diving head first into a display of diamonds.

The next thing I noticed was that they really do carry affordable jewelry. The gold beaded bracelets are 5 for $49 and come in so many amazing colors. The thin sparkly bangles are $65 each and I love the mixture of rose gold, gunmetal and silver. But by far my favorite is the modern vintage rope bracelet with inital and spun cotton pearl by John Wind. It also comes in gold and is only $98. If you enjoy shopping local, like myself, stop by Cornell's this holiday season!

I {Heart} Wednesdays

{Sweater: Factory, Shirt: Factory, Skirt: J.Crew, Tights: J.Crew, Boots: Forever 21, Necklace: Banana Republic, Watch: Timex for J.Crew, Glasses: IZOD}

I know it's Thursday but I started writing this on Wednesday. I wore this outfit on Wednesday so I'm keeping my title, k? Which reminds me that I'm now so bothered by texting full words that I've had to  start abbreviating ok into just k. And if you get a lot of "sounds good!" texts from me it's because I only have to type "sg" for that to happen. Yes, I'm fully aware of the laziness.

On a different note, sequins are everywhere and I felt I needed to incorporate more into my wardrobe. This sweater was the perfect fit. People asked where I could be going in such a dressed up get-up but I was only buying S.L.U.G Zombies ('cause doesn't every 5 and 3 year old want those from Santa?) and hanging with my kids. To be honest this was one of my most comfortable outfits I've worn in a long time. So go ahead. Text me whether you should buy a sequin sweater. You already know my answer. sg,k?!

A Dash of Leopard

Incorporating animal print into your wardrobe is easy-peasy. One rule of thumb: a little bit goes a long way. I try to keep the rest of my outfit neutral but brights or pastels make a great mix. Leopard is my fav but zebra, giraffe and cheetah do the trick too. If you are experimenting, try a dash with a belt or scarf. I'm proud to say I've met my accessory quota and can now graduate to full blown pieces. Perhaps that faux leopard coat I've had my eye on or the leopard ensemble Nicki Minaj wore, complete with matching hair spots. On second thought, maybe a belt or scarf will do.
