I swore I would never wear a turtleneck again. I lost my affection for them after my second child. I also lost my appectite for pizza so I naturally blamed this weird behavior on pregnancy hormones.  I could eat a full pizza on my own and had an entire drawer in my dresser dedicated to turtlenecks and all of a sudden, the pizza tasted bland and the turtlenecks felt so...constricting.  Fast forward 4 years later and I'm testing the turtleneck waters again. But this time it's different. Less bulky, confining and neutral, I'm loving the fabrics and bold colors I'm seeing this season. Leave it to J.Crew to make me die for something I thought I'd given up forever. And that pizza thing...it didn't last quite as long as my turtleneck aversion but I now try to stick to a three piece max rule.

Happy Black Friday! I'm still in a food coma so I decided not to brave the stores today. Hopefully you had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was filled with lots of thanks, family and delicious food.

Bright jewel toned pieces are everywhere, but I am actually loving pretty pastels and neutrals in trending fabrics like velvet, patent leather, and lace. It was so sunny and beautiful here in Rochester so I loved wearing open toed heels and found some dainty dot socks to keep my toesies warm. I wore this belt not only because it matched perfectly and was under 5 dollars, but also to quietly remind myself when to stop stuffing my face. It popped off twice so obviously it was ignored. Added to my list of things to be thankful for: nobody noticing the double belt bust.

J.Crew Jewels Wish List

J.Crew Bubble Earrings

My in-laws have said "There's no one that enjoys getting presents more than Becky." I didn't think I was that obvious but perhaps giving them my Christmas list the day after Halloween was a bit much. I do like to be prepared though. There is one thing that makes my Christmas list every year. Jewelry. It's usually dainty, sparkly and from J.Crew. I literally want to eat this jewelry, it looks so delicious. I love the bright colored baubles and shiny crystals. And even though they are stand alone statement pieces, I just want to pile it all on at once. So maybe I will. If it's there under the tree this year. *hint *hint for those buying Becky presents this year.

LBDs that I LUVs

It's holiday time, which means parties and dress up. The little black dress is the perfect closet staple. It's a blank canvas that can be adorned a million different ways. I love how the LBDs this season are a little unexpected with tulle, lace, cut-out and embellishments. Most of the above dresses are less than $100! It's said you only need one but the sparkle, shine and fluff have me hypnotized into thinking more is better.

Just Another Mani Monday: Top Coat vs. Top Coat

topcoat

When I discovered Seche Vite fast drying top coat, I was amazed. I have never used a top coat that drys so quickly and so incredibly shiny. Although it gives my nails high gloss, it's the "quickly" part that is the necessity. As a busy Mom, some days it's hard enough to get my teeth brushed, let alone paint my nails. If I then had to wait old fashioned time for them to dry, it would be like climbing Mt. Everest naked. Impossible and never happening. But some girlfriends who hadn't heard of SV recommended Essie good to go. Always up for discovering new products, I decided to give it a try. Although it dried my nails fast, it just wasn't happening at the demanding rate of speed I wanted. I smeared a nail and yelled every watered down expletive you could imagine. "Sugar muffins!, Darn it!, What the?" So, in order to keep it tame for the children's sake, I think I'll continue on with my Seche Vite.

My friend Maura posed the question yesterday: Are sequins okay to wear during the day? Working in a medical enviornment, I would say no to sequins in my workplace, even in small doses. But she's the owner of Sas.sa.fras, a gorgeous floral and gift boutique and I couldn't think of a reason why she shouldn't wear them. Black sequin mini-skirt? Not exactly what I was thinking. Sequin top under a blazer? That sounds lovely. She inspired me to find new ways to wear my sequin tank so I layered it over my chambray button-down, paired with slimming black pants and added some pop with a teal clutch (that cost $10!)  I wore this out to breakfast and I did not get one inquisitive stare. Perhaps sequins are more standard that I thought? Either way, a little day sass never hurt anyone.

Pink Color Bug

I don't commit easily but I'm very committed to my hair stylist. If any of you see Jason Ripple at Rock Paper Scissors salon, you know exactly what I'm talking about. He is a master of hair, but he's also become a dear friend. Not only does he remember which side I part my hair on, he knows I'm always searching for a fun and different "hair moment". When he pulled out Kevin Murphy's color bug, I wanted to do a toe-touch and give spirit fingers. Pink tips? Go team. It gives amazing pigmented color but comes out with literally one washing. Perfect for the non-comittal lady that wants to spice it up for a night.

Tips:
1. place a dark towel under your hair so that it doesn't get on your clothing.
2. seal in the color by applying a hairspray or styling cream first
3. shake out the excess after applying.

Bonus: There is a special color coming out soon that will give you that holiday GLOW. I of course couldn't wait so I snatched the pink. If you're as impatient as me, stop in and see the team at RPS to covet yours.
