Subtle Chevron

full length

{Blouse: SugarLips, Jeans: 7FAM, Blazer: Banana Republic, similar, Shoes: BCBG Gen, Necklace/Bangle:J.Crew, Watch: Fossil}

At 5' 1" it's almost as necessary as food and water for me to have an amazing tailor. Everything needs to be shortened. I finally found someone that I feel really good about. And what an accomplishment that is for this petite chica. Actually nothing in this picture has been tailored my new girl, Fatima,  BUT she also owns a local boutique and I found this Sugarlips blouse there. Love the subtle chevron, navy cuffs and who can say no to button detailing down the back. Obviously not me. And I like it that way.
P.S. I enlisted my Mom to take these pics and they are some of my favs. Thanks Mom!

Just Another Mani Monday

Badgley-Mischka inspiration
{photo from bellasugar}

My mani inspiration came from the Fall 2012 Badgley Mischka runway. Deborah Lippman polished nails with Dark Side of the Moon and tipped them off with Nefertiti. I chose an OPI gel manicure with Every Month is Oktoberfest with Goldeneye tips. Gel manis are the best. Sure they tear up your nails a little afterward but to this nail obsessor, it's worth it. I can pick, tap and chew (yes, bad bad habits) but the mani stays in place. Finally after two weeks I get my way and pick off the polish. And what a fun Saturday night that is. But compared to a regular manicure that would have been a measley three days so I'm a firm believer the gel is worth the wait.

SWA(hot pink)K!

{Revlon: Fuschia $8.99, Sephora: Love Test $12, NARS: Funny Face $24}

Me and my girls are lovin' hot pink lips. But have you heard of hot pink chin? No? Read on... The night of the Dado fashion show 2 out of 4 of us had it. (I admit it. I had the HPC) It's when that daring, bright pop of color travels from your bottom lip to that small crease at the top of your chin and just sits there all night long. I don't recommend rubbing, frantically scrubbing, or spit cleaning. It just makes it worse Ladies. So how to prevent the HPC or any colored chin for that matter? "You girls forgot to blot, didn't you?" says Chrissy in the parking lot at the end of the night. Duh...and I call myself a fashion and beauty blogger.

Gray After Dark

{Blouse: Banana Republic, Jeans: 7 For All Mankind, Jacket: Tibi from Panache Vintage, Shoes: Banana Republic, Watch: Timex for J.Crew, similar, Bracelet: Sweet William Vintage, Ring: Silpada, Earrings: Free People}

My fingers couldn't hit the keyboard fast enough when I read that IFB was teaming up with Stuart Weitzman to showcase blogger's favorite evening shoes and after hours style. The posts are inspired by the James Franco directed video series for Stuart Weitzman's "Walking After Midnight" campaign. Five lucky bloggers win an amazing pair of Stuart Weitzman head turning heels, which would basically make my entire life complete.

Last week was the Dado fashion show. It's always a great time getting together with my girlfriends that love and appreciate fashion as much as I do. I had to transition from day to night so I thought this bow tie blouse would be perfect for pulling double duty. Tucked in and button cuffed, it's smart and classy. Free flowing with a fur on top, it's sexy and chic. The jeans are probably one of my most favorite purchases of all time. Love the dark slimming color and delicate zippers. These gray suede lovelies are my Stuart Weitzman "Walking After Midnight" inspiration and my go-to heels when I want a change from the usual black. And dirty martinis are my go-to for...well, anything.

Let’s Hear It For The Boys

Edited By Taylor Davies
For this week’s LALM round up, I’d like to pay tribute to the men out there. I’ve noticed over the past few months that we’ve had a lot more menswear bloggers contributing their posts to the forum, showing their taste, their interpretation of trends and great writing style. Sprinkled in with Russian style icons, DIY projects and a gorgeous photo shoot set at a chateau in France – you’ll find some menswear posts that will inspire the dudes and the ladies.

Trend Alert: Black&Tan

$80 -

Black and Tan

When I think of black and tan, my Father-in law drinking a cold one comes to mind. But pertaining to fashion, black and tan is one of my favorites. Shannon Bones from Styles with Shannon on Warm 101.3 and I were chatting about some loved color fashion trends. Black and tan is easy, classy and versatile. I put together three looks with most items under 100 dollars. So make that easy, classy, versatile and AFFORDABLE! I'll drink to that...

Double Denim

{Chambray shirt: J.Crew Factory, similar, Infinity scarf: LOFT, Jeans: 7 For All Mankind, Socks: Free People, Boots: Nine West, similar, Sunglasses: Gap}

Someone once told me that an all denim get-up was called a Texas tuxedo. Really? Can someone from Texas weigh in on this?  Two tips for pulling off double D's. One: mix denim colors.  Two: pair something loose with something form fitting. Oh and one more tip...don't do coordinating denim attire with your Love, unless it's Halloween and you are spoofing Britney and Justin from the 90's. Then of course do it up, Texas tuxedo style!

{sorry Justin, you know I love you}

Now I want YOU to weigh in on something for ME! Do you prefer socks peeking out or no socks?

Dear Red

I'm not usually one to run toward a bright Red skirt. I'll say it. Red is not my favorite color. (sorry, Red). I hope no one takes offense to this statement but I always associate Red with older, more distinguished women. My Mom likes Red. My Mother-In-law likes Red. I don't think my best girlfriends even own anything Red. See how this perception is formed? I even feel like the word deserves to be capitalized because of its boldness. But as I was sifting through the sale rack at J.Crew I came across this darling skirt with a slight paperbag waist and thought I'd give it a try. For 20 dollars, why not? And you know what? I like Red. Maybe it's because I'm older and more distinguished. Or maybe it's because I took a chance on a color that I've ignored for too many years. Hello, Red. Hope to see you again soon.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Unfortunately, if you haven't battled this awful disease personally, you know someone or mutiple people who have. It's great to see all the beautiful beauty products that brands put forth in which proceeds are donated to a supporting foundation for breast cancer. I compiled this list of 10 items, each under 20 dollars. One item is less than a grandé pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. No excuses people! Anyone planing an October wedding or baby shower? How about choosing one of these beauty items for favors or gift bags? Even if you're not in the market for these particular items, go ahead and buy one. How can anyone feel guilty for spending a little for a good cause?

Five Friday Favs...Cleveland Style

 {room with a view}

 {Nordstrom Ladies' Lounge...Can Rochester please get a Nordstrom already?}

{Sweet potato fries with cilantro dill aioli}

{samples from Sephora}

{goodies to take home from Cleveland}

I'm here in Cleveland for a conference. Optometrists can party like the rest of 'em so tonight's fête is at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum (pic 1). I've been here once before but still looking forward to going again and exploring. It's a wonderful place to get inspired, not only with music but with style and fashion. I cannot wait to see the Robert Alford, a music photographer, exhibit. Also, hoping to get a glimpse of some amazing artifacts at the Right Here, Right Now exhibit. Happy Weekend!

Let's Get Naked

naked shadow

I hope you weren't expecting an outfit post after reading the title. That would be an immediate way to lose all readers, including myself. No one deserves to see that! However, you do all deserve to go out and buy Urban Decay's Naked and/or Naked 2 eyeshadow palettes. I don't have Naked 2 yet but I can tell you the first one has brought my eyelids so much joy. I love every color and all the different looks you can experiment with from shimmer to matte to glitter. My favorite color is Half Baked, a vibrant gold. You can find it in either palette. The shadows are very pigmented and have great staying power. I've used this set everyday since I've gotten it. Great for day and night looks!

These two sets are on my "to buy" beauty list. Both part of the Urban Decay Holiday Collection (yes, I said holiday), the Smoked 24/7 Glide on Pencil Set has six pencils with two limited edition colors and two additional colors that you cannot buy individually. It looks to have all bases covered with a bold black, shimmering pewters and deep jewel tones. The new shades are Smog (copper) and Mainline (dark green/blue matte). Back by popular demand are Uzi (gunmetal with shimmer) and Empire (dark empire satin). Oldies but goodies are  Zero (black) and Demolition (chocolate brown matte). The Vice palette has 20 new shades that combine shimmer, matte,  jewel tones and neutrals. Bonus: all the palettes come with a high quality shadow brush. It's all just a big love fest for the eyes!
