The Fluff Report: July 2012

July 30, 2012

Greetings from the Cape!

Nothing feels more patriotic than watching the Olympics and cheering on Team USA from the quintessential American vacation destination. We were able to enjoy the beach today although this week overall looks colder than usual.  I couldn't believe the four perfect shells we found on our first beach outing. It was as if they were planted in the sand just for us! Enjoying lobster, wine, sun, ice cream, family, and obsessed with my new panama hat (found for less than 10 dollars in our local Gap).  Definitely deserving of a gold medal for that find!

Bright Brites

TGIF! I've been sick all week with a cold (who even gets sick in the summer?) but this outfit made me smile. I love mixing prints and brights. I paired it with some neutral heels so it wouldn't be too out of my comfort zone. Love the exposed zipper, ribbon straps and electric yellow color. Reminds me of sunshine and sunshine makes me happy and happiness makes me forget about miserable sinus pressure. Looking forward to a healthy weekend!

Emily Giffin's "Where We Belong" released today

I've been an Emily Giffin fan since her first novel, Something Borrowed.  I've followed along and waited anxiously for each new book to be released. I even made it to the theater to see SB, which I must say was an effort as my movie-going days are few and far between. (kids will do that to you) She has a knack for writing about real, relatable characters that you just can't help but love, flaws and all. The first chapter, available here has me hooked already! I can see it lounging on the beach, soaking up the sun, kids throwing sand in my face, splashing water on me, engrossed in this perfect summer read and basically loving life.

Lauren Conrad launches new Eco-Friendly Beauty Bags

I'm so excited for Lauren Conrad's new XO(eco) collection by Blue Avocado. These cute bags combine beauty, fashion and function all while leaving an eco-friendly stamp. It's hard to believe they are constructed from Repreve, a material that comes from recycled plastic bottles. Each bag has an impact label so you can see how many plastic bottles were up-cycled to make a particular product. Choose from lunch bags, market totes, and even a hot iron cover (it can withstand 500 degrees of heat!). I particularly like the beauty bag that has the snap off clear compartment to make it easy when traveling through the airport. Pre-order yours on We all deserve to look beautiful, even a poor plastic bottle!

Vacation at the Cape

Vacation at the Cape

I can't wait for our family vacation in Cape Cod next week. The four of us have never been on a week long vacation alone, so I'm super excited to have some QT with the fam. The boys are looking forward to burying their Dad in the sand and touring the potato chip factory (secretly excited for that as well!) I love traveling to places I've never been before. Where are you taking your summer vacation?

What I'm Loving Today...

Bobbi Brown Beach Shimmering Fragrance Oil. People have been raving about this product since it came out in Bobbi Brown's 2012 Miami Collection. And now I know why...The light fresh scent with a tiny touch of shimmer makes me feel as if I just spent the day at the beach. My skin had that sun kissed, glistening appeal. Just a personal FYI,  don't go overboard. I once knew a girl that loved this product so much she got a little spray crazy and thereafter resembled an oil slick. (ok fine so that girl was me, but my beauty blunder was kindly pointed out by my lovely girlfriends and all potential oily mishaps were masterly avoided) Did I mention the major bummer about this product? Two words. Limited Edition. Damn ladies...get it while you can!

Pretty Pleats with a Vintage Necklace on Top

This skirt is old. old. old. So old I could almost call it vintage. Funny how styles go full circle and come back in fashion. I love the soft pleats and how can you resist the mint green color. But seriously, the necklace is actually vintage. My friend Alison of Sweet William designed this personally for me. This gorgeous necklace not only has multi-layers of vintage pearls but incorporated the brooch from my wedding dress and some rhinestone strands raided from my mother and grandmother's jewelry box. It's sparkly and fancy and the ultimate statement necklace. I couldn't imagine anything better to wear for dining with some mamacitas and drinking 1800® margaritas.

What I'm Loving Today...

Sephora Nano Lip Liner: 05 Native Nude
Sephora Collection Nano Lip Liner. I love trying new lip color trends and even though I know a lip liner is essential, I often spend the bulk of my money on the lipstick or gloss (or both in most cases). So when I didn't want to break the bank, I picked up one of these. I was most surprised at how smooth and creamy the application was! Probably because they have a shea-butter and jojoba-oil-infused formula. There are 20 different colors and one will only set you back 5 bucks. I'd say that's a good deal considering it's less than my usual Starbucks order.

New Beginnings

Top: Anthropologie, Jeans: J Brand, Shoes: Nine West, Clutch: Big Buddha, Watch: Fossil, Earrings: by boe

Summer wouldn't be complete without attending at least one graduation party. So job well done to our neighbor, Sam! I love how graduations symbolize new beginnings and moving on to bigger and better things. What better day then for my first blog post. It's been unusually hot this summer so I wore this peplum halter with my hair in a top knot to stay slightly cool and the wedges were perfect for navigating the hilly backyard landscape. Cheers to new beginnings!
